The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture and Agribusiness in Ondo State, Hon. Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola, has reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening food security and promoting grassroots empowerment through sustainable initiatives.
Akinsola made this known during a special outreach programme held at Oyemekun Local Council Development Area, where support was provided to elderly members of the community. He commended the leadership of the council for prioritizing the welfare of senior citizens.
Describing the initiative as a reflection of compassion and responsible grassroots leadership, Akinsola stressed that the elderly deserve dignity, care, and continuous support in recognition of their contributions to society.
He noted that the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa remains focused on policies and programmes aimed at improving the living conditions of citizens, particularly vulnerable groups.
As part of his contribution to the programme, Akinsola donated eggs and other food items to beneficiaries in his capacity as Chairman on Food Security in the state.
He also highlighted key agricultural empowerment initiatives under the Ondo State Agric Business Empowerment Centre, including the Eyin Irorun and Adiye Irorun schemes, designed to improve access to affordable protein and boost local poultry production.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of Oyemekun LCDA, Hon. Oluwadamilare Adeleye, said the programme was part of ongoing efforts to provide relief and support to elderly residents.
He emphasized that sustainable development must prioritize the wellbeing of senior citizens who have contributed significantly to family and community growth.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Oyemekun LCDA, Hon. Ife Ologometa, applauded the initiative and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life of residents, especially the elderly.
The outreach featured the distribution of food items to beneficiaries, bringing relief and joy to many, while underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing inclusive and sustainable grassroots development.
