All is now set for the 44th Inaugural Lecture of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, Nigeria.
The lecture will be delivered by Professor of Counselling Psychology, Jude Akomolafe, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Titled “Did You Complete What You Started? The Tripartite Roles of Commitment, Predictors and Therapeutic Interventions,” the lecture promises to offer deep insights into the psychological dimensions of human persistence and support systems.
In a statement by the Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adebisi Daramola, the event will be chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige. It will hold at the University Multipurpose Hall and commence at 2:00 p.m., with guests expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m.
Professor Akomolafe’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Education degree in Guidance and Counselling from the former Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University) in 1997. He proceeded to earn a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling from AAUA in 2004, and obtained a Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology from the University of Ibadan in 2009.
He joined the services of AAUA in 1998 as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Guidance and Counselling, Faculty of Education, and rose steadily through the ranks to become a full professor in 2019.
Over the years, Professor Akomolafe has served the university in more than 70 capacities, including Head of the Department of Guidance and Counselling, Acting Director and later Associate Director of the Institute of Education, Chairman of the Teaching Practice Committee, and Chairman of the Business Committee of Senate.
His scholarly contributions include co-authoring two books and publishing over 50 articles in reputable academic journals. He has supervised and mentored over 1,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, including 22 Master’s and six Ph.D. candidates.
Professor Akomolafe also serves as an external examiner to several institutions, including Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; Ekiti State University; University of Ibadan; University of the Free State, South Africa; and the National Open University of Nigeria, where he is also a facilitator and project supervisor.
He has presented papers at over 40 local and international conferences in countries such as Kenya, South Africa, the Kingdom of Eswatini, Italy, and Canada.
A respected member of several professional bodies, Professor Akomolafe is affiliated with the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria, the International Society for Policy Research and Evaluation, School-Based Counselling, Positive Psychology Association of Nigeria, Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Africa, and the Association of Teachers in Tertiary Institutions of Nigeria.
