Prof. Oyetakin to Deliver Lecture on Economic Pressures in Higher Education at AAUA

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), is set to host its 42nd Inaugural Lecture, to be delivered by a distinguished scholar in Educational Management, Professor Akinrotimi Iyiomo Oyetakin.

According to a statement by Professor Adebisi Daramola, Chairman of the Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), the lecture will take place on Tuesday, 17th June 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the University’s Multipurpose Hall. Guests are expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m. The event will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.

Titled “Cost Explosion and Expenditure Implosion in Tertiary Education: Equilibrium Heresies in Motion”, the lecture is expected to offer profound insights into the complex financial dynamics affecting higher education in Nigeria and globally.

Professor Oyetakin began his academic journey with a National Certificate in Education (NCE) from Lagos State College of Education, Oto-Ijanikin, in 1990. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics Education (B.Sc. Ed.) from Lagos State University in 1998, followed by a Master of Education (M.Ed.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Educational Management from the same institution in 2000 and 2009, respectively.

He joined Adekunle Ajasin University in 2010 as a Lecturer II in the Department of Educational Management and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2022.

Throughout his academic career, Professor Oyetakin has held several key academic and administrative roles. These include three-time Head of Department, Secretary of the Faculty Conference and Seminar Committee, Coordinator of Departmental Seminars and Journals, and membership of strategic committees such as the AAUA Webometric Committee, the Postgraduate Seminar Committee, and the Faculty of Education Journal Committee. He has also served as Centre Coordinator for the University’s Sandwich Degree Programme and as Acting Director of the Institute of Education.

A prolific scholar, Professor Oyetakin has published, edited, and co-authored over 59 scholarly books and peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals worldwide. He is a highly sought-after speaker and rapporteur, having participated in academic conferences and discourses across Nigeria, Italy, Tanzania, Lebanon, Kenya, and beyond.

His professional affiliations are equally impressive. He is a member of the Nigerian Association for Educational Administration and Planning, the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management, and the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria. He is also a Fellow of the International Institute of Logistics and Administration and a Life Member of the Teaching and Education Research Association (TERA), United Kingdom. Additionally, he serves as editor, co-editor, and reviewer for several reputable academic journals.

The upcoming inaugural lecture is expected to draw academics, policymakers, students, and members of the public for a thought-provoking engagement on one of the most critical challenges facing tertiary education today.
