In a dramatic turn of events, officers from the Scorpion unit of the Ondo State Police Command on Sunday stormed the office of the Amotekun Corps in Akure and forcibly took away a suspect in custody.
The police team also reportedly whisked away some Amotekun operatives who were on duty at the time of the incident.
Although details surrounding the invasion remain unclear as of the time of filing this report, preliminary investigations suggest that the action was prompted by allegations that Amotekun officers had brutally assaulted a suspect arrested on Saturday, leaving him in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Scorpion unit fired shots into the air and damaged several vehicles within the Amotekun premises during the operation. The incident caused panic and disrupted activities in the Alagbaka area of the state capital, as residents fled for safety.
The identity of the suspect and the nature of his alleged offense remain unknown. As of now, no official statement has been issued by either the police or the Amotekun Corps.
Normalcy has since returned to the area.
