The Ondo State Police Command has taken firm action against the illegal installation of one Adekolajo Aladeseyi as the Olujare of Ijare, in Ifedore Local Government Area, describing the move as a breach of the state’s Chieftaincy Laws and a threat to public peace.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the command said the development followed a directive from the Ondo State Government aimed at preserving law and order in the community.
According to the police, Mr. Aladeseyi unlawfully assumed the traditional title without the consent of the Local Government and the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs, actions which sparked unrest and raised serious security concerns within Ijare.
The statement revealed that Aladeseyi and his alleged collaborators were invited to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure on May 7, 2025, around 3:30 p.m. There, they were informed of the state’s directive for their arrest and subsequent prosecution.
They were later arraigned before High Court 3 in Akure and have been remanded in police custody pending further legal proceedings.
To forestall any escalation and maintain calm, tactical police units were deployed to Ijare. The police confirmed that the situation in the community is now stable, with security personnel closely monitoring developments.
The command reiterated its commitment to upholding laws related to traditional institutions and maintaining public order across the state.
“We will not hesitate to deal decisively with any individual or group that acts outside the bounds of the law,” DSP Olayinka stated.
Residents of Ijare and the wider public were urged to remain law-abiding and support the authorities in their efforts to preserve peace and stability.
The police added that the gains made in securing Ondo State would be protected with continued professionalism and resolve.
