The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six persons over an alleged fake miracle scam in Idanre, as part of its ongoing crackdown on fraud and related criminal activities across the state.
The suspects were apprehended on February 16, 2026, during a coordinated intelligence-driven operation carried out by operatives of the Command’s tactical teams in collaboration with Community Safety Officers (CSOs).
The operation followed credible information about the activities of a suspected fraud syndicate operating within Idanre and its environs.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly posed as pastors and religious leaders, staging fake miracles and spiritual interventions to gain the confidence of unsuspecting members of the public.
They were said to have exploited the faith and vulnerabilities of their victims by promising divine solutions to financial, health and personal challenges, only to allegedly defraud them through false pretence and other related schemes.
The suspects were identified as Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola and Ademola, all males.
Police sources disclosed that the group reportedly operated in a coordinated manner, assigning specific roles to members to create what investigators described as a convincing façade of legitimacy.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine the number of victims involved, the financial magnitude of the alleged fraud, and to identify other possible collaborators who may still be at large.
The suspects remain in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command urged members of the public to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to individuals who use religion or claims of miracles as a cover for criminal activities. Residents were advised to verify suspicious claims, be wary of unusual financial demands, and promptly report dubious gatherings or activities to the nearest police station.
The Police reiterated their commitment to sustained intelligence gathering, community partnership and strategic operations aimed at ensuring the safety and protection of lives and property across Ondo State.
