The Ondo State chapter of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations (NACOMYO) has commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the reappointment of Alhaji Amidu Takuro as a commissioner nominee in the state.
Governor Aiyedatiwa had recently forwarded a list of twelve commissioner nominees to the Ondo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Among them is Alhaji Takuro, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Reacting to the development, the Ondo State Coordinator of NACOMYO, Engineer Muhammed Ogunmola, said the Muslim community in the state is delighted with the nomination, describing Alhaji Takuro as a consummate and grassroots politician whose impact transcends religious and political lines.
“Alhaji Takuro is a worthy ambassador of Islam. His contributions to governance and community development are beyond estimation.”
“We have no doubt that his return to the cabinet will add immense value to the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa,” Engineer Ogunmola said.
He further noted that Alhaji Takuro’s record of performance and loyalty to the state and Muslim Ummah earned him a spot among the awardees for NACOMYO’s upcoming Hijrah celebration, scheduled for last Sunday of this Month, June 29.
While expressing gratitude for the appointment, NACOMYO also used the opportunity to remind Governor Aiyedatiwa of his promise to ensure inclusive governance.
“We appeal to Governor Aiyedatiwa to fulfil his campaign promise to the Muslim community. Muslims in Ondo State played a significant role during the electioneering period, offering open support and endorsement,” Engineer Ogunmola said.
He expressed concern over the representation of Muslims in the current composition of the state executive council.
“Out of the total of fourteen commissioners, two previously appointed and twelve recently nominated, only one is a Muslim.”
“This is grossly inadequate and does not reflect the contributions of Muslims to the success of the present administration,” he said.
NACOMYO called on the Governor to address the imbalance and ensure fair representation of Muslims in his cabinet.
