The Ondo State Government has announced plans to honour one of its most illustrious sons and a leading figure in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to national and global development.
The honour will be conferred on February 3, 2026, at the International Centre for Events and Culture (The Dome), Akure, as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ondo State.
Ondo State was created on February 3, 1976, by the military administration of General Murtala Ramat Mohammed, as part of measures to bring governance closer to the people.
According to a letter signed by the Chairman of the Planning Committee and Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, and sighted by this media outfit, the award is in recognition of Prof. Adegbulugbe’s exceptional contributions to the socio-economic and political development of Nigeria and the global community.
“I have the honour to formally inform you that His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved your nomination for conferment of the Ondo State Award in recognition of your exceptional contributions to the growth and development of our state,” the letter stated.
Dr. Fasoranti added that the nomination underscores the high esteem in which Prof. Adegbulugbe’s achievements are held by both the government and the people of the Sunshine State.
Pastor (Prof.) Anthony Adegbulugbe is the Chairman of Green Energy International Limited, an indigenous oil and gas company credited with building Nigeria’s first indigenous onshore crude oil export terminal, ending decades of reliance on facilities owned by multinational corporations.
A First Class graduate of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife), Prof. Adegbulugbe has distinguished himself not only in academia but also across the energy sector.
Born in Ondo City, the renowned energy expert is also deeply involved in Christian ministry, serving as a District Superintendent of the Christ Apostolic Church and Presiding Pastor of Christ Apostolic Church, CITEC Estate, Abuja.
A serial entrepreneur and public policy expert, Prof. Adegbulugbe has served in several strategic national roles, including Special Adviser to the President on Energy, and currently serves as the Chancellor of Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State.
