JUST IN: Ondo Govt Shuts Dumpsite in Akure, Orders Immediate Remediation Work

The Ondo State government has order a temporarily short-down of a Dumpsite at the Igbatoro/Imafon Road in Akure the State capital.
In a memo conveying the directive to the CMD/CEO, ZL Global Alliance Nig. Ltd, the state government said
“The reason for this is due to the poor state of the site, having filled up with waste and already being dumped outside of the facility.”
“It is important to equally stress that several complaints have been lodged by residents living around and who are plying the Igbatoro/Imafon Road.”
NOTIFICATION ON THE TEMPORARY SHORT DOWN OF IGBATORO/IMAFON ROAD DUMPSITE

2. On the directive of the Honourable Commissioner for Environment at a meeting held on 5th March, 2024 in his Office, I am to notify you of the decision of the State Government to temporarily short-down the Igbatoro/Imafon Road Dumpsite.  The reason for this is due to the poor state of the site, having filled up with waste and already being dumped outside of the facility. It is important to equally stress that several complaints have been lodged by residents living around and who are plying the Igbatoro/Imafon Road.
3. It is therefore, hoped, immediate remediation work will commence at/on the site by your  Company and while the State Government will consider the option of also still carrying out a major intervention work at the site before further use/operation is permitted.
4. Before all necessary remediation work is carried out however, all waste deposition and tipping by the Private Sector Participants (PSPs) in waste collection are to be done at the Aponmu proposed sanitary landfill site.
