In fulfillment of his administration’s promise to bring succor to communities affected by recent rainstorms, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, on Thursday, distributed relief materials to victims across five local government areas.
Beneficiaries, comprising victims of rainstorm and fire disasters from Idanre, Akure North, Akure South, Akoko South-West, and Ifedore LGAs, gathered in Akure to receive the items aimed at helping them restore their livelihoods.
Speaking at the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, said the intervention aligns with his administration’s commitment to the welfare of residents affected by natural disasters.
“As promised during visits to the affected communities, we are here today to deliver on our word to bring relief through the distribution of essential materials and financial support,” he stated.
He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the well-being of citizens across the state. “As a government, we will continue to implement initiatives to mitigate the effects of floods and other natural disasters through consistent dredging of waterways and enforcement of environmental sanitation laws,” he added.
The governor commended the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA) for its effective collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other stakeholders in ensuring timely response to disasters.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Ojo Idowu, expressed gratitude to the state government for approving and releasing funds for the procurement of relief materials. He assured that SEMA would continue to respond promptly to emergencies while urging residents to adopt preventive measures to reduce disaster risks.
Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Mr. Donald Fasua, praised the state government’s prompt response, noting that the intervention would provide much-needed relief to affected residents.
In a goodwill message, the Director of Operations for NEMA in Ondo and Ekiti States, Mr. Kofoworola Soyele, commended SEMA for its innovative and timely emergency response.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Rachael Ariyo, who received a cheque of ₦1.5 million, thanked the government for the assistance and pledged to use the funds to replace items lost to the fire incident.
