Oct 22, 2025

The Ondo State Government has assured residents of their safety following the circulation of a leaked security memo suggesting a possible terrorist attack in some parts of the state.

The memo, reportedly issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure, had raised public concern after it surfaced in the media.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, the government described the leaked document as part of “regular intelligence reports routinely shared among security agencies and the government.”

According to Ajanaku, such intelligence exchanges are normal components of security operations aimed at detecting and preventing potential threats. He emphasized that these reports, which vary in threat assessment, are used in joint operations by security agencies to ensure vigilance and proactive response.

“The public can be assured that the reports are being acted upon by the government and relevant security agencies. Necessary precautions have been taken to ensure the safety and security of residents,” the statement read.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.

Ajanaku further noted that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is in constant communication with security agencies and has directed special attention to border communities as part of measures to maintain peace and security.

“The government is taking several steps to ensure Ondo State remains one of the safest states in the country,” he said.

While appealing to residents to go about their normal activities without fear, the government cautioned against taking laws into their own hands and encouraged cooperation with security operatives to forestall any possible attack.
