May 29, 2025

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has hailed the defection of Hon. Festus Akingbaso, a serving member of the House of Representatives and former deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a significant political boost for the ruling party.

In a statement issued by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejaye, the party described Akingbaso’s move as a “landmark harvest” and a major setback for the opposition PDP in the state. It said the lawmaker’s popularity and electoral success, particularly in overcoming political odds, make him a valuable asset ahead of future elections.

The State Chairman of the APC, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, while reacting to the defection, said Akingbaso’s decision further strengthens the party’s position in Ondo State.

“With three senators and nine members of the House of Representatives, the APC continues to prove it is the true progressive party in the Sunshine State,” Adetimehin stated.

He assured the new entrant of full support and opportunities within the party to achieve his political aspirations.

Adetimehin also commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and other party leaders for their strategic efforts in making the APC more attractive to the electorate.

The party called on its executives and stakeholders in Idanre Local Government Area to give Akingbaso and his supporters a warm and inclusive welcome.
