As the October 10 governorship election draws nearer, there was a mild drama in Ondo town, Ondo State, yesterday when some supporters of the APC and those of the ZLP, almost engaged in bloody clash when campaign train of the two parties met in the town.
It took the intervention of a former Governor and National Leader of the Zenith Labour Party, Dr Olusegun Mimiko who is an indigene of Ondo town to douse the tension.
SUNSHINETRUTH reliably gathered from an eyewitness (a securityman) that some supporters of the APC allegedly used a truck to block a major road in the town and this prevented many motorists including the ZLP members and leaders heading to Ore for campaign flag off from passing for hours.
The witness said the expressway was blocked against vehicular movement for several hours while some leaders of the two parties engaged in a shouting match until Mimiko whose his residence is not far from the scene, was called for timely intervention to prevent violence.
It was gathered further that Mimiko approached the state Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who was at the scene to talk to the overzealous supporters from causing unnecessary crisis in the area.
SUNSHINETRUTH learnt that both Akeredolu and Mimiko later spoke with security agents to remove the truck used to block the road to ease off the traffic jam.
Mimiko and the State Deputy Governor,
Agboola Ajayi, who is the ZLP governorship candidate were among those held up at the scene and later headed for Ore ZLP governorship campaign flag off, while Akeredolu and his APC supporters continued with their rally in Ondo west local government area yesterday.
