The Yoruba Ronu Group says the death of Mr Yinka Odumakin has “denied Nigerians and particularly the Yoruba nation a voice that has remained constant in nation building, since his student days.”
The group in a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Prince Diran Iyantan said Odumakin’s death “portrayed once again that we are all mortals and we must return to our creators one day. Yinka has fulfiled that mandate.”
The group said it received with shock the passing of Mr Yinka Odumakin saying early in life Yinka has chosen a path laced with thoroughness of ideas, deep appreciation of the challenges confronting our nation, a preparedness not only to engage diverse issues, interogate those who are in authority, a capacity to speak truth to power. He also had an unflinching penchant to make sacrifices.

The Yoruba Ronu Group received with shock the passing of Mr Yinka Odumakin. His death portrayed once again that we are all mortals and we must return to our creators one day. Yinka has fulfiled that mandate.

Early in life Yinka has chosen a path laced with thoroughness of ideas, deep appreciation of the challenges confronting our nation, a preparedness not only to engage diverse issues, interogate those who are in authority, a capacity to speak truth to power. He also had an unflinching penchant to make sacrifices.
It is a fact of history that his position may not always sit well with many Yorubas on many issues but his commitment to the Yoruba cause is legendary and daring so also his role as the mouth piece of Afenifere, the dominant voice of the Yoruba nation.
We of the Yoruba Ronu Initiative, commiserates with the leadership of Afenifere, his family, the Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria and more particularly his wife and Comrade in the struggle, Mrs Joe Okei- Odumakin for this great loss. We also pray for the repose of his soul.
