International Women’s Day: Invest in Girls for a Stronger Nation – Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu

Mar 6, 2026

The founder of the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, Ada Owere 1, has called for sustained investment in girls’ education and empowerment, saying such efforts are critical to building a stronger and more hopeful nation.

In a reflection to mark the International Women’s Day 2026, themed “Give to Gain,” Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu noted that the most impactful investments societies can make are often not in infrastructure alone but in the development of people, particularly young girls.

She explained that empowering girls with confidence, skills and the courage to pursue their aspirations has the power to transform communities and shape a better future.

According to her, experiences gathered through the programmes of the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation have demonstrated how opportunities and mentorship can turn shy girls into leaders, nurture curiosity into innovation, and transform hesitant voices into voices of courage.

Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu stressed that while such changes may appear small at first, they represent the seeds of long-term societal progress.

She therefore encouraged governments, institutions and individuals to continue providing opportunities, encouragement and knowledge to young girls, emphasizing that the gains of such investments ultimately translate into national development and renewed hope for society.
