Ondo State Government has raised the alarm that activities of some Traditional Rulers and Obas in the State posed a serious threat to the peace and development of the State.
Ondo State Deputy Governor while representing the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN at the 12th Coronation Anniversary of Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Frederick Enitiolorunda Obateru Akinruntan CON, noted that the alarming rate at which some Obas and Traditional Rulers expands their jurisdiction was aggravating communal clashes in the State.
His words, “on behalf of Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, I congratulate our King, Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom for achieving this milestone even as we wish him many years on the throne” .
“Arakunrin send his sincere greetings that, long may you reign, Kabiyesi”, he said.
Aiyedatiwa said, “let me use this opportunity to appeal to our Obas and Traditional Rulers that we are all partners in progress” .
“And on behalf of Ondo State Government, I am appealing to our Obas and Traditional Rulers not to expand their area of authority beyond their domain” .
“Let’s all stay within our area of jurisdiction,..if a Traditional Ruler is elevated to be an Oba, let us acknowledge the new position of that Oba” , he pleaded.
“But, when an Oba or Traditional Ruler extends his authority beyond his domain, it has profound implications for our collective peace” .
“I’m pleading to all that, let’s have peace and harmony, let’s cooperate and collaborate so that peace will return to our respective areas” .
“Assisting Government in maintaining peace and orderliness should be our collective mandate” , pleaded the Deputy Governor.
Aiyedatiwa equally condemned in strong term, the incessant cult clashes and thuggery in Igbokoda, Okitipupa and some other parts of the State.
According to him, “I’m socked and saddened by the incident of Cultism and thuggery that is shattering our years of relative peace and stability in some areas in the state” .
“Cultism and thuggery are threat to peace and development as we as Government join the rest of concerned people to deplore these vices” .
“Given our State’s economic and social challenges, we cannot afford destruction of lives and property that make our challenges more complicated” , he said.
The Deputy Governor, then appealed to Obas, Traditional Rulers, Religious leaders and community leaders to assist in speaking to the people, especially youths to shun Cultism and other social vices.
