Green Energy International Limited has debunked claims that it dumped crude oil waste into waterways within its operational area in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
The company was reacting to an online video circulating on social media, which alleged that crude oil waste was being discharged into waterways in Andoni.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Corporate and Legal Services, Barrister Segun Ilori, Green Energy expressed concern over what it described as the spread of unfounded information without proper verification.
“Our attention has been drawn to a false claim circulating online that crude oil waste is being discharged into waterways around the Andoni waterways. This allegation is untrue and misleading,” Ilori stated.
He clarified that the imagery and location shown in the video do not correspond with Green Energy’s facilities, stressing that none of the company’s operations are located within or adjacent to waterways.
“In our Otakikpo Field in Andoni, we operate under a strict zero-discharge policy, fully compliant with Nigeria’s Environmental Guidelines and Standards for the Petroleum Industry (EGASPIN),” he said.
Ilori further disclosed that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was completed before the commencement of operations and that environmental parameters are jointly monitored on a quarterly basis with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
“No adverse environmental impacts have been recorded,” he added.
The Executive Director emphasized that Green Energy has never discharged crude oil waste into the environment and has no intention of engaging in practices that could endanger host communities or ecosystems.
“Green Energy remains committed to transparent, responsible operations and environmental stewardship in the Niger Delta,” Ilori said, urging the public to disregard what he termed misinformation.
He also called on the originators and promoters of such claims to refrain from projecting or disseminating misleading narratives based on generalized and unverified opinions.
