Leadership Newspapers has named Green Energy International Limited the Oil and Gas Local Content Company of the Year 2025, in recognition of its landmark achievement in constructing Nigeria’s first indigenous onshore crude oil terminal in five decades.
The award follows the company’s remarkable performance in delivering the Otakikpo Onshore Crude Oil Terminal, located in Otakikpo, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The terminal is widely regarded as a transformative infrastructure project aimed at unlocking the vast oil and gas potential of the Niger Delta.
Green Energy International Limited was specifically commended for providing evacuation and export opportunities for stranded oil fields through the onshore terminal.
The development addresses long-standing supply chain challenges within Nigeria’s crude oil sector and reduces dependence on export infrastructure historically built and controlled by multinational corporations.
The company is the first indigenous Nigerian firm to construct an onshore crude oil terminal after more than 50 years of reliance on facilities established by international oil companies.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Board, Management and staff, the Director of Legal and Corporate Services, Barrister Olusegun Ilori, expressed appreciation to Leadership Newspapers for the recognition.
“It is gratifying to know that we are being honoured for what we considered a patriotic duty — unlocking our nation’s potential through the construction of the first indigenous onshore crude oil terminal in 50 years of oil and gas exploration,” Ilori said.
He explained that a detailed assessment of Nigeria’s crude oil and energy supply chain revealed limited evacuation access for operators of stranded fields, prompting the company to take strategic action.
“When we examined the supply chain closely, we identified the urgent need to create evacuation and export access for oil and gas companies operating stranded fields. Our mission was to unlock that potential and provide a lifeline — not only for our own field but for other indigenous operators as well,” he added.
Ilori noted that the company was encouraged by the recognition, stating that it was reassuring to know that its efforts had been closely observed and appreciated.
He also acknowledged the support of industry regulators whose collaboration, he said, was instrumental in the successful delivery of the project.
The Director further commended the Chairman of Green Energy International Limited, Pastor (Prof.) Anthony Adegbulugbe, for his administrative leadership and strategic direction, which he described as pivotal to the company’s achievements.
According to Ilori, the milestones recorded by the organisation are the result of teamwork, stakeholder collaboration and a shared commitment to operational excellence and efficient service delivery.
The award underscores growing recognition of indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and highlights the expanding role of local content in strengthening the nation’s energy infrastructure.
