The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), Ondo State Chapter, has announced plans to inaugurate its local government and ward structures as part of efforts to strengthen its presence across the state.
This was one of the major resolutions reached on Wednesday at the State Executive Meeting of the group, which drew a large turnout of state officers, advisory committee members, and local government coordinators from the 18 councils of Ondo State.
Held at the GMT office in Akure, the meeting provided a platform to review recent activities and brainstorm strategies for deepening grassroots mobilisation, with a focus on promoting the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Addressing journalists after the session, the State Director-General of GMT, Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, highlighted progress so far and unveiled new initiatives.
He noted that the group had consistently engaged communities across the three senatorial districts, rolling out sensitisation campaigns and free medical outreach programmes tagged Gingi Asiwaju.
According to him, the medical intervention, already implemented in all three senatorial districts, is sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
“In the last few months, we have been on the streets, in towns, villages, and communities, propagating the ideas and achievements of Mr. President.
“We started the Gingi Asiwaju free medical outreach at the senatorial district level to add value to what the President is doing. Now we are moving to constituencies. For instance, tomorrow (Thursday) we are taking the outreach to Owo/Ose,” Yusuf-Ogunleye said.
On upcoming programmes, he disclosed that GMT would soon commence the inauguration of its local government and ward chapters, while also introducing the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Sports Festival in Ondo State.
“We have gathered our coordinators to agree on the timetable for inaugurations across the councils. We also need to brief our members on upcoming activities, particularly the sports festival, which is designed to engage our youths constructively,” he explained.
Speaking on the significance of the sports programme, Yusuf-Ogunleye, a two-time former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ondo State, stressed that sports transcend recreation.
“Sports are not just entertainment; they are now business, a means of empowerment, and a unifying force in communities. President Tinubu himself has demonstrated passion for sports in the last two years, and we are taking that passion to towns and villages.
“Football, volleyball, table tennis, ayo olopon, marathon, gymnastics—these are some of the events we are introducing. They bring young people together, take them off the streets, and prepare them for a better tomorrow,” he added.
The GMT DG emphasised that the organisation’s initiatives were designed to complement government efforts and bring President Tinubu’s impact closer to the people.
“For those who may not have met the President physically, these programmes are a way for them to see and feel his contributions,” he noted.
Others present at the meeting included the State Secretary, Hon. Rasheed Badmus; Director of Women Affairs, Hon. Olamide Falana; Director of Media, Mr. Oyewamide Ojo; Director of Youth, Comrade Paff Kolade Lawal; and other state directors of GMT.
Also in attendance were Hon. Afe Felix, representing Akoko North West II Constituency, and Hon. Oluwatoyin Victor Japhet, representing Akoko North East Constituency in the Ondo State House of Assembly, alongside all 18 local government coordinators of the movement.
