It was an opportunity for talents to be on display with excitement and fun fare as the 37th annual inter house athletics sports competition of the Federal Government Girls’ College, Akure took the center stage at the school’s play ground.
The annual sporting event provided the platform for talented girls of the citadel of learning to showcase their God given potentials aimed at promoting sports development at the grassroots.
The event featured five (5) different houses who competed for honours at the grand finale.
Green house (Moremi) Yellow house (Emotan), Blue house (Queen Aminat) Purple house (Babafunke Ajasin) and Red house (Margaret Ekpo) all fielded competitors.
Delivering her address, the Director and School Principal, Mrs Lawal Adenike Idiat, said the sports competition as an aspect of psychomotor domain of education is an avenue through which students develop their skills and talents in sports and games thereby making every child to benefit from inclusive education being given in the College.
She noted that sports has become one of the lucrative means of livelihood in every continent of the World, Africa inclusive, adding that many of the young people now pursue sports as their career.
The Chairman on the occasion, Hon.(Mrs) Olamide Falana, former Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Gender who highlighted numerous gains of sporting activities, applauded the school authority for organizing a befitting and competitive event.
Mrs Falana who congratulated all the competitors commended the spirit of participation, noting that every participant is a winner.
The Chairman of the PTA, Hon. (Mrs) Omolola Omotunde while congratulating the school for the success of the sporting event, reassured of the commitment of the association to policies and programmes that impact the school positively and enhance the welfare of the angels.
Some of the events that were competed for include 100 meters, 200 meters, 4 ×100 meters relay, long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin and discus among others.
At the end of the event, Red house (Margaret Ekpo) took the ultimate prize by placing 1st, followed by Purple house (Babafunke Ajasin) in the 2nd position while Blue house (Queen Aminat) placed 3rd just as the 4th position went to the Green house (Moremi)
Yellow house (Emotan) occupied the rear.
