***VC Reiterates Support as New CP Visits Varsity
In a renewed effort to strengthen the security of lives and property in and around Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has reaffirmed the unwavering support of the institution to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other security agencies.
Prof. Ige made this known on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, while receiving the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, who was on a familiarisation visit to the University.
Emphasizing the importance of a secure academic environment, the Vice Chancellor said,
“As a responsible Management, we place a high premium on the safety of our students and staff. We will continue to provide all necessary support to the police to ensure our campus remains safe. We are committed to stamping out criminality in the University community.”
Prof. Ige appealed to the Police Commissioner to deploy more officers to the campus and the Akungba community at large, and called for deeper collaboration among all stakeholders, including neighbouring communities and other security outfits.
He also expressed appreciation to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Akungba and his team for their consistent efforts in maintaining peace and order, assuring that the University will further strengthen its partnership with the Nigeria Police Force.
In his remarks, CP Adebowale Lawal commended the proactive approach of the University Management to security issues and disclosed that the Police Command is working to deepen engagement with students across the state.
“The Police Command has established a School Protection Unit, initially targeted at secondary schools. We are now set to extend its coverage to tertiary institutions across Ondo State,” CP Lawal revealed.
He further announced plans to reactivate the Student-Police Relations Committee, a platform designed to foster dialogue, resolve emerging issues, and build mutual trust between students and the Police.
The Commissioner assured the University community of increased police presence within and around the campus.
“We will deploy more officers, both in uniform and plain clothes, to enhance surveillance. Our tactical teams will also be on standby to ensure the safety of lives and property,” he said.
CP Lawal was accompanied on the visit by his Deputy Commissioner of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and other senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
