The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC today insisted that the fire incident that gutted a section of the commission’s headquarters in Akure, will not lead to postponement of the October 10 Governorship Election in Ondo State; SUNSHINETRUTH can report authoritatively.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye gave the indication while speaking with newsmen on the fire incident that occurred last night.
Mr Okoye allayed fear of political parties that would be participating in the poll that INEC would find means of securing another set of card readers since its a one state election
The INEC National Commissioner who noted that over five thousand card readers have been burnt in the inferno, said the commission would move card reader machines from other states to ondo state for the purpose of conducting the governorship as scheduled.
He explained that the commission would leave no stone unturned as to unravel the cause of the fire incident.
On avoiding future recurrence, Mr Okoye added that the commission would find a lasting solution to ensuring safety of its electoral materials and members of staff.
