Okanlawon Ibrahim Olalekan, a corps member who died in a boat mishap after the state House of Assembly election in Ondo state on Saturday, was on Monday given a state burial in Akure, the state capital according to Islamic rites.
His body was withdrew from the State specialist hospital where it was deposited after the unfortunate incident.
Wrapped with national and the NYSC flags, the remains of the late Ibrahim were taken in a convoy to the Muslim cemetery, araromi axis of Akure for interment.
Presiding over the funeral, the Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji AbdulHakeem Yayi-Akorede who described the deceased as a faithful muslim urged Nigerians to always remember death in their daily transactions and be good to others.
Speaking at the funeral, the governor of Ondo state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who sympathized with the National Youth Service Corps and family of the deceased said Ibrahim was a great patriot who lost his life in the course of serving his fatherland.
Reprsented by the commissioner for youths and Sports, Saka Yusuf Ogunleye the governor said Ibrahim’s service to the state and the country would not go unappreciated, saying that the ondo state government would meet with his family in Ogun state on government’s plan for them.
Representatives of NYSC, INEC and the chairman of Ese-odo local government area also paid glowing tributes to the deceased.
Five months ago, Ibrahim Okanlawon obeyed the clarion call to serve his fatherland and was posted to ondo state for his national service.
Serving at the Herald of Hope Group of Schools, ojuala, in Ese-odo local government area, he was deployed to Arogbo as one of the INEC ad hoc staff who presided over the 2019 general elections in the area.
He met his untimely death last Saturday when the boat conveying him and his colleagues capsized at Arogbo, leaving others wounded.
Born on the 15th of May, 1990 in Abeokuta, Ogun state, the late Ibrahim okanlawon was a graduate of accountancy from the Federal Polytechnic, Offa in Kwara state.
