BEING A SPECIAL ADDRESS OF THE GOVERNOR OF ONDO STATE, ARAKUNRIN OLUWAROTIMI ODUNAYO AKEREDOLU, SAN, TO THE PEOPLE OF ONDO STATE ON THE JUST CONCLUDED MARCH 9TH HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS.
My good people of Ondo State,
I thank you most profoundly for your peaceful and very commendable conduct during last Saturday’s House of Assembly elections. You have shown the true character and value of our State as a land of uncommon heroes who are committed to the best ideals of representative democracy.
I commend you specially for voting candidates of your choice into the State House of Assembly.
The importance of this election cannot be overemphasised. It signifies the foundation for the convention of the second arm of Government whose responsibility as law making body is a key tool in the overall performance of government.
I must also express my appreciation to the leadership, officers and men of all the various security agencies whose alertness and efficiency ensured that our dear State remained a shining example of communal harmony.
For those who tried to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere we enjoy on account of their misguided partisanship, let me remind them that we will not relent in our commitment to ensuring the security of lives and property of our people in every part of the State, and we will not spare mischief makers and purveyors of violence.
I sincerely use this opportunity to express my condolences to the family of Mr. Ibrahim Okanlawon, the young corps member who served as INEC ad-hoc staff and who lost his life in a boat mishap in Ese-Odo Local Government Area.
As a State, our heart bleeds but our consolation remains in the success of his historic deeds which conjoin with others to strengthen our nation.
My dear people of Ondo State, last Saturday, you spoke loud and clear. Your language is unmistakable. Your choice is for progress and prosperity for our dear State.
I am persuaded that the peace, progress and unprecedented developments in the State will continue to serve as impetus for our future endeavours.
I hereby use this auspicious moment to assure you that under my watch, the good works of developing our State will continue.
Our commitment to growth in infrastructure, road, education, health, provision of potable water and many other interventions will continue undistracted, and the fortune of our state will continue to blossom.
Once again, I congratulate you for being great ambassadors of Democracy.
