The election petition tribunal sitting in Akure on Tuesday, 16th August, 2022 dismissed the petition filed by the PDP and it’s candidate barrister Olumuyiwa Adu in the Akure North/Akure South House of Representatives election in Ondo State.
Barrister Adu challenged the outcome of the election held on the 26th of February,2022 which declared Hon. Mayokun Lawson Alade as the winner.
The petitioner challenged the outcome in 10 wards and 26 polling units citing irregularities.
He asked the court to declare him winner of the election.
Delivering Judgment on Tuesday, the three man panel, Justice Ogadi Cordelia Nwamaka (Chairman), Justice (Dr.) Nwankwo Chukwudi Kingsley and Justice (Dr) Jeremiah Essien unanimously agreed that the case lack merit.
In the judgment read by Justice Ogudo Cordelia Nwankwo, the election was said to have been in accordance with the electoral law.
He therefore dismissed the PDP and it’s Candidate’s case.
Reacting to the Judgment, the federal lawmaker representing Akure North /South Hon. Mayokun Lawson-Alade applauded the judgment saying it is a victory for democracy and rule of law.
He thanked the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, all APC leaders and all his constituents for standing with him and Justice during the period.
Hon. Lawson-Alade said nothing would deter him to continue to bring dividend of democracy to his constituency and constituents.
