The Akure Diocesan Clergy Fellowship has dismissed allegations of financial misconduct levelled against the Bishop of Akure Diocese, The Most Reverend Simeon Oluwole Borokini, and his wife, Princess Christianah Adetunmbi Borokini, describing the claims as false and malicious.
Bishop Borokini had been accused of involvement in the sale of diocesan land and mismanagement of church funds, raising concerns in some quarters.
But in a statement jointly signed by 20 Archdeacons across the Diocese, the clergy said a careful review of the allegations showed they were baseless and lacked credibility.
The Fellowship alleged that the claims were orchestrated by individuals seeking to tarnish the image of the retiring Bishop and bring the Diocese into disrepute, stressing that those behind the allegations do not represent the interest of the Cathedral or the various Archdeaconries.
According to the statement, Bishop Borokini has demonstrated prudence and accountability in the management of diocesan finances and assets, adding that there is no known case of financial impropriety involving him or his wife.
“The contents of the publication are nothing but fabricated falsehood,” the statement read. “We stand firmly by the Bishop and affirm our confidence in his administration.”

The clergy urged members of the public to disregard the allegations and reiterated their support for the Bishop as he approaches retirement.
