Akure Celebrates Ugogo Masquerade Festival Tomorrow as Monarch says no Closure of Markets

The people of Akure will on Saturday celebrate Ugogo Masquerade festival.

Ugogo masquerade comes out once in a life time of a king. 

The masquerade is equally expected to visit any reigning Olisa once in its life time.

According to a statement made available to www.ojuasha.com.mg by Deji’s Chief Press Secretary, Michael Adeyeye, there would not be closure of markets in Akure.

“The masquerade will be restricted to the Olisa Quarters in Akure which had earlier been announced.

Notwithstanding, shops within the route of passage of the masquerade are expected to close their shops within the hours that the masquerade is expected to perform its traditional rites while passersby are expected to watch from distance during same period.”

CLARIFICATION ON THE UGOGO MASQUERADE 

The attention of the Palace of the Deji have been drawn to rumours flying around with respect to the Ugogo Masquerade that is billed to visit the Palace of the Olisa of Akure Kingdom on Saturday 21st May, 2022.

2. The Palace therefore wish to inform the general public that there is no closure of Markets in Akure Kingdom as being speculated by some individuals.

3. For the avoidance of doubt, the Ugogo masquerade only comes out once in a life time of a king. It is equally expected to visit any reigning Olisa once in its life time.

4. However, the visit of the masquerade will be restricted to the Olisa Quarters in Akure which had earlier been announced.

5. Notwithstanding, shops within the route of passage of the masquerade are expected to close their shops within the hours that the masquerade is expected to perform its traditional rites while passersby are expected to watch from distance during same period. 

6. All residents are enjoined to go about their lawful duties without any fear while they could also catch the glimpse of the Ugogo masquerade.
