The Adefaka Royal Family, a branch of the Abibiri Ruling House of Isolo and the Ojijigogu Ruling House of Akure Kingdom, has announced the cancellation of the planned final burial ceremony for its late patriarch, Alhaji Kasumu Daniel Yesufu Adefaka, who passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
The cancellation was formally made public in an audio broadcast by the Chairman and Head of the Adefaka Royal Family, Prince Babatunde Saliu Adefaka, released on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
In the message, Prince Adefaka disassociated the family from an invitation card currently in circulation regarding a final burial ceremony, describing it as unauthorized and misleading.
“To the chagrin of our family, there is an invitation card in circulation, even sent to us using one of our youngest family members, inviting members of the public to a purported final burial ceremony of our late father. As the natural chairman and head of this family, I am officially declaring that this planning—though using our chosen dates—is not by us,” he stated.
He further warned against attempts to destabilize the family, urging younger members not to allow themselves to be used by external forces.
“I, therefore, declare that all such arrangements based on that invitation are null and void,” he emphasized.
A statement released by the family’s Media Office and signed by the family’s Secretary and PRO, Prince Bashir Adefaka, reinforced the position of the royal household. It noted that all decisions concerning the family are now under the leadership of Prince Babatunde Saliu Adefaka and that the family is committed to following the final wishes and laid-down instructions of the late patriarch.
The statement cautioned against any further attempts by outsiders or disgruntled individuals to interfere in the family’s affairs.
“All external elements trying to cause confusion and division among the surviving children of this family should be told that our father has since been buried, and they should keep off Adefaka Royal Family matters,” the notice read in part.
The family disclosed that efforts are underway to report acts of hooliganism and any suspicious gatherings or meetings to appropriate law enforcement agencies.
“We won’t talk to them directly as family. They will hear from us if they dare,” the notice concluded.
