The management of Achievers University, Owo, has declared that its proposed College of Medicine with a Teaching Hospital will be established without delay.
The management also said on Tuesday that it has graduated no fewer than four thousand students since the inception of the Institution.
It also declared tuition free scholarships to all students in 10 highly demanding degree programs for three consecutive years with effect from 2020/2021 academic section.
The degree courses are: Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Industrial Chemistry, Biochemistry, Geology and Plant Science and Biotechnology.
The Vice Chancellor of Institution, Prof. Samuel Olanbaji Aje, who made the disclosure in a press conference, explained that the scholarship was in comemoration of the 13th foundation anniversary of the school.
The Federal Government had on 23rd of October, 2007, approved the institution and was licensed as a conventional University by NUC in 2007, while it opened for academics activities same year.
The VC said: “The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Hon. Dr. Bode Ayorinde, in conjunction with the Governing Council have decided to push the Corporate Social Responsibility of the University to yet another level”
“By extending access to University education to a section of people who, under normal circumstances, would not have had access to University education by offering tuition free scholarships to all students”
Aje, who is the third Vice Chancellor of Achievers, said amidst the lockdown occasioned by the pandemic, the school didn’t retrench any of its staff, instead they received their remuneration as and when due.
He further stated that Students were exposed to online teaching, hence, they didn’t suffer from the lockdown unlike other higher institutions.
“It will interest you that during lockdown, Achievers University did not retrench any staff, infact, we are paying our staff regularly, therefore Students of Achievers University did not suffer from the lockdown as academic activities for the 2019/2020 session have been concluded,” the VC said.
In a similar development, Prof. Aje gladly said the Governing Council is deploying strategy and resources in establishing, without delay, a College of Medicine with Teaching Hospital as well as a Research Development Centre.
On infrastructure, he noted that top-notch projects have been completed while some are at the various stages of completion.
However, he said so far the University has recorded tremendous growth in offering qualitative education and unbeatable feats, he urged parents to visit the school’s website and apply for any courses of their choice.
