Ace Journalist Rotimi Feyisina empowers youths in Ekiti

The Speaker of Ekiti House of Assembly , Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye has charged youths to start laying good foundation for themselves by learning vocational and entrepreneurial skills that would make them employers of labour and stop the search for nonexisting salaried jobs.

Afuye gave the charge at the grand finale of a 3-day empowerment programme organized for some selected youths in Ekiti State by a journalist with the State Ministry of Information, Rotimi Feyisina in Ado- Ekiti.

The Speaker noted that most of the developed countries’ economies are driven by individuals and entrepreneurs unlike the developing countries where citizens are over reliant on government for job provision and basic amenities.

“What we are witnessing today is the best way to go in Nigeria in finding the lasting solution to the critical issue of unemployment and employment generation. We need to engage ourselves in vocations and have entrepreneurial skills like the ones you have been trained and empowered today”. He stressed.

While commending the convener, Rotimi Feyisina for the kind gesture, describing him as a great role model and mentor to the younger generation, he called on the beneficiaries to make use of the knowledge and money they received from the empowerment programme judiciously.

Earlier In his remarks, Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly called on the youths and beneficiaries to be creative and focused noting that they could achieve all of their dreams with the dint of hardwork and when their knowledge of technical know how meet with necessary opportunities.

In her own remarks, the Ekiti State Head of Service, Mrs Peju Babafemi called for attitudinal change amongst the youths for absolute reliance on paper certificates, stressing the need to learn vocations, trade as well as having entrepreneurs skills saying that is the best way to go in the changing world.

“Learning a vocation can help you make a living even when you have not gotten your desired job. Just have a target of what you want to do and be focused, in life, no success story without pains”, she encouraged.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Convener of the Empowerment Programme, Pastor Rotimi Feyisina, disclosed that the vision was born out of his personal experience while growing up.

Feyisina who noted that things were so difficult while growing up said that the situation in the country has not really changed, noting that so many youths are passing through similar difficult road he passed through.

The convener stated that the empowerment training lasted for three days where resource persons on Photography, Shoemaking and Cake Baking were on ground to lecture the beneficiaries on how to set up their own businesses without waiting for government’s job. He noted that cash given was to encourage the trainees in their various chosen vocations .

The versatile Journalist assured Ekiti residents that he would organize another round of empowerment especially the one for the widows before the end of the year.

Some of the trainees expressed their appreciation to the convener, stressing that they have been equipped both intellectually and financially, promising to make judicious use of all that they have learnt and earned.

Other dignitaries at the programme included Youths and Sports Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibikunle; a Special Assistant to Ekiti Governor, Pastor Adetunji Aribisoye; wife of the Convener, Mrs. Bolanle Feyisina and the Resource Persons among others.
