The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has described the appointment of his predecessor, Prof. Igbekele Amos Ajibefun, as Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology as a well-deserved and commendable decision.
Prof. Ige made the remark on Thursday, July 31, 2025, during a courtesy and congratulatory visit to the new Commissioner in his office in Akure, alongside members of the University Management.
“Your appointment did not come to us as a surprise. It is a natural recognition of your stellar record of leadership, diligence, and commitment to public service. Having served meritoriously as a Rector and later as Vice Chancellor, your track record speaks volumes. Indeed, your appointment is a round peg in a round hole,” Prof. Ige said.
He also commended the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for what he described as a thoughtful and visionary appointment. Prof. Ige expressed confidence that with Prof. Ajibefun at the helm, the state’s education sector would witness transformative growth.

“We are confident that you will bring your vast experience in educational leadership to bear on the task ahead. We pray for strength, wisdom, and all the support you need to take education in the state to greater heights,” he added.
In his response, Prof. Ajibefun expressed appreciation for the visit and lauded the AAUA management for sustaining the university’s legacy of academic excellence and stability, especially its uninterrupted academic calendar.
He assured the delegation of the government’s commitment to revitalizing the education sector in Ondo State.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa is passionate about transforming education at all levels. We will work collaboratively to address the sector’s challenges—from basic to tertiary education. With synergy and dedication, we will reposition education to meet global standards,” he affirmed.
