The House of Representatives primary elections conducted under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across various federal constituencies have been successfully concluded, with candidates of the party duly emerging. The emergence of these candidates provides a solid and strategic foundation for the party’s senatorial ambition in Ondo South.
One critical factor the party must carefully consider is ensuring that the House of Representatives candidate and the senatorial candidate do not emerge from the same local government area. Such political balancing will significantly strengthen the party’s structure and enhance the electoral fortunes of Mr. President in the forthcoming general election through massive and widespread support across the district.
Now that it has been reliably confirmed through political developments that Hon. Donald Ojogo has emerged victorious in the primary election, there is no further need to look toward the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency for the senatorial ticket. This constituency already boasts an overwhelming concentration of political offices and federal appointments, including the Governor, an Ambassador, the returning member of the House of Representatives, the NDDC Commissioner, the OSOPADEC Chairman, the Federal Character Commissioner, and several other notable federal appointees.
With the outcome of yesterday’s primary election, the political equation has naturally shifted the Senate seat to Odigbo Local Government, the home base of Rt. Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin. This development presents a unique opportunity for fairness, inclusiveness, and political balance within Ondo South Senatorial District.
Odigbo Local Government remains the strongest progressive base in Ondo South. Since the formation of the APC in Ondo State, the party has consistently recorded victories in the local government due to the unwavering progressive ideology and loyalty of its people.
Despite this remarkable political loyalty and contribution, Odigbo currently has no significant federal presence or appointment. The people have long been denied a sense of belonging in terms of political patronage and representation. Understandably, the electorate in Odigbo may find it difficult to approach the forthcoming general elections with full commitment if their interests are not protected and adequately represented through the Senate seat.
Interestingly, Rt. Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin stands as the only senatorial aspirant from Odigbo Local Government. His political credentials speak volumes. He is a two-term Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, and a formidable grassroots politician with extensive political experience and wide acceptability across the district.
Rt. Hon. Akinfolarin remains a critical asset to the party ahead of the forthcoming general elections. Beyond his electoral value, he is well-positioned to become a ranking member of the Senate, which would attract significant comparative advantages and developmental opportunities not only to his immediate constituency but also to Ondo South and the South-West region at large.
Therefore, it is incumbent upon all party faithful and progressive-minded stakeholders to come out en masse tomorrow, the 18th of May, 2026, and vote massively for Rt. Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin in the overall interest of the party and, ultimately, the success of Mr. President.
