It was a day of joy and relief in Okitipupa on Thursday as more than 1,000 residents trooped to the Methodist Primary School to benefit from a free medical outreach organised by the Grassroots Mobilisation for Tinubu (GMT).
The programme, known as Jigi Asiwaju, offered eye tests, free eyeglasses, blood pressure checks and free medication.
For many residents, especially the elderly, the outreach provided access to healthcare services they had long been unable to afford.
The programme was declared open by the Jegun of Idepe-Okitipupa, Oba Michael Adetoye Obatuga, who was accompanied by members of his Council of Chiefs to the event.
The Director-General of GMT, Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, said the initiative was created to touch the lives of ordinary Nigerians and bring President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda closer to the people.
“President Tinubu has been doing well since assuming office. On our part, we want people in the grassroots to feel his impact. We’ve covered Ondo Central, now we are in Ondo South and soon we will reach Ondo North.
“Although the medical programme is being organised by the state chapter of GMT but it is powered by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The group appreciates his unwavering support,” Yusuf-Ogunleye said.
Among the beneficiaries who were full of gratitude was Mrs. Felicia Oguntola, who received new eyeglasses after a free test.
Oguntola said: “I have been struggling with my sight for a long time but couldn’t afford proper glasses. Now, I can see clearly again.”
Another resident, Mr. Pamilerin Ayeku, said the free hypertension test and medication would help him manage his health.
“This has lifted a burden off many of us who cannot easily access hospitals,” he added.
Volunteers and health workers worked tirelessly throughout the day, ensuring that residents were attended to.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement as beneficiaries left with smiles and relief.
At the event were Hon. Yusuf-Ogunleye, the State DG; Hon. Rasheed Badmus, State Secretary; Chief Olamide Falana, State Women Coordinator; Rt Hon. Jumoke Akindele-Ajulo, member of the State Advisory Committee and Women Coordinator (South) and Dr. (Mrs) Olubunmi Ademosu, Women Coordinator (Central) and member of the State Advisory Committee who returned to the country from the United States earlier this morning.
Others were Chief (Mrs) Bukunmi Oseyemi Akeju, Women Coordinator (North); Barrister Gbenga Olaniyi, Akure South Coordinator; Mr. Banji Ehuwa, Ilaje Coordinator; and Iyaloja of GMT in the state, Deaconess Olufunke Adesida;
The GMT medical team led by its director, media team and GMT Ladies were well represented at the event.
