The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted nine trucks loaded with smuggled rice in Ogun State.

This was disclosed on Monday by the Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, Kola Oladeji, during a press briefing in Lagos.

Oladeji explained that the interception was carried out by operatives under FOU Zone A, who successfully prevented the smuggled goods from being brought into Nigeria from the Republic of Benin.

He added that the smugglers abandoned their vehicles after spotting the customs officers.

To secure the seized goods, the command mobilised additional resources, including six buses and 11 patrol vehicles, to convey the confiscated rice to the customs warehouse.

Oladeji commended the officers for adhering to the service’s strategy of avoiding confrontations with smugglers, stating that they opted to hire trucks and deploy patrol vehicles to complete the operation safely.

In total, nine trucks, six buses, and 11 patrol vehicles were used to transport the seized rice to the designated location.

The comptroller praised the efforts of the operatives in ensuring the success of the operation without any incident.
