***Immunization Exercise Holds Between 5th – 11th October
About one million children are targeted for immunization exercise billed for between 5th and 11th October, 2024 in Ondo State.
This was disclosed at the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) training for media practitioners on HPV/Non Polio supplemental immunization integrated activities in Oyo town, Oyo State.
The one-day workshop is aimed at acquainting journalists with the current status, statistics, risks, symptoms prevention, impact and how the virus could be eradicated in the country.
The workshop is tagged: “Media Orientation On HPV/Non Polio Supplemental Immunization Integrated Activities.”
The figure is 17 percent of Ondo State population of over five million.
The exercise will take care givers and health workers round the eighteen local government areas of the state for the one week programme.
The Social and Behaviour Change Specialist, UNICEF, Aderonke Akinola Akinwole said the participants, who are the voice that represents the voiceless, are brought together for the agency to provide enough information to them on Human Papilloma Virus(HPV), which is still new, and Non-Polio viruses.
They are expected to disseminate the information they gather at the workshop to the people of within the reach of the various media outlets.
She emphasised that there’s still more work to be done on vaccination campaign.”
AkinolaAkinwole said: “This meeting is to challenge ourselves on how we can put in place sustainable approach to see to the vaccination of the children against variants of polio viruses.
“Let’s synergise on the approaches of the health system and with the media, this will go along way in seeing to eradicating polio and other variants in our society.”
Presentations were made on the role of the media in mobilizing for participation and strengthening immunization, Utilizing data for action, Utilization social media for immunization and health communication and others.
Participants were drawn from Southwest Zone and Edo State
