***As Fadairo’s Efforts Bring Ondo Government to the Rescue
In a proactive step to address the perennial flooding challenge in parts of Isinkan kingdom, the Ondo State Government has commenced the clearing and dredging of the Yeye River in Akure West Local Council Development Authority (LCDA).
The exercise, which began yesterday, was met with jubilation from residents of affected communities who have long endured the devastating impact of floods during the rainy season.
The intervention follows a formal request submitted to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa through the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Engagement (Central), Hon. Femi Fadairo.
The request, initiated by the Akure West LCDA Chairman, Hon. Sunday Adejuyigbe, came after an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas.
Communities expected to benefit from the flood mitigation project include Ajipowo (Onibode Aseyori), Honeymoon, Agunloye, Danjuma, Talk of the Town, Olorunsogo, Obe, Odiolowo, and the Isinkan market area—all of which have recorded frequent flooding incidents in recent years.
Speaking during the launch of the exercise, Hon. Adejuyigbe expressed delight at the commencement of the project, noting that it demonstrated the Aiyedatiwa-led administration’s responsiveness to grassroots needs.
“This effort has rekindled the hope of our people, especially at a time when many had given up on the possibility of government intervention. It’s a major relief and a victory for those of us who have continued to push for meaningful development at the community level,” Adejuyigbe stated.
The chairman warned against the indiscriminate dumping of waste in water channels, describing such behavior as a major cause of flooding.
He vowed that violators would face legal action and urged residents to cooperate with authorities by keeping waterways clean and reporting any actions that might sabotage the government’s efforts.
He also commended Hon. Femi Fadairo for his swift and strategic role in ensuring the community’s request received prompt attention, describing it as a testament to effective and responsive leadership.
Adejuyigbe lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for his commitment to environmental safety and infrastructure development, particularly for initiating the dredging ahead of the peak rainy season.
“This initiative underscores the governor’s dedication to the welfare of the people. We urge residents to continue supporting this administration because the best is yet to come,” he said.
The exercise is expected to continue in other flood-prone areas across the state in the coming weeks.
