An ICT Expert, Olumbe Akinkugbe is ahead of rival, Abiola Makinde in the run-up to the general elections, and looks set to win the All Progressives Congress primary election billed for May 16, a new poll showed.
They are jostling to represent Ondo West/Ondo East federal Constituency at the green chambers in Abuja under the platform of APC.
A poll conducted by Politico Consulting, a political strategy and communications firm based in Akure has revealed that Hon Makinde is trailing behind Olumbe.
The poll which was conducted by phone calls randomly sampled the opinion of 836 persons who are members of the APC residing in Ondo East and West local government.
The results from the polls show that 53% of the people sampled showed preference for Olumbe Akinkugbe, over the incumbent Hon Abiola Makinde who polled 47%.
Speaking on the results of the polls and the parameters used to determine the outcome, Mr. Bambo Oshunniyi, a pollster with Politico consulting said “before every election, we usually conduct polls to see which candidates are most popular with the people.
This helps us to project the which candidates will win an election before the last vote has been counted.
In this instance we administered a simple questionnaire over the phone asking people two simple questions.
The first being which of the two candidates do you prefer, and the second question is why you prefer the candidate that you picked.”
Mr. Oshunnyi also spoke about the demographics of those poll and the candidates that they leaned towards said “Olumbe did better with women, educated young men and the elderly, while Makinde did well among youth groups.”
Finally, Mr Oshunniyi noted that this poll may not necessarily reflect the outcome of the election as candidates are able to work to enhance their chances or sometimes even diminish their chances. It only reflects the mood of the people during a given period.
