The Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko is set to graduate a total of 6,837 students at its 13th Convocation Ceremony.
During a press conference in Akure, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige hinted that Among the 6,182 undergraduate graduands, 62 students achieved First Class Honours, a feat he described as testament to the academic excellence upheld by the institution.
The Management of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko brought together Journalists in Akure Ahead of the 13th Convocation Ceremony of the citadel of learning to intimate them on lined up activities.
According to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Olugbenga Ige, this year’s convocation coincides with the 25th Anniversary of the institution and marks the third to be presided over by his administration.
Prof Ige stated that a total of 6,837 graduands from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions which include 657 postgraduate students, among whom 46 have earned their Ph.D. degrees will be graduated.

‘Additionally, 1,941 earned Second Class Honours (Upper Division), 3,486 attained Second Class Honours (Lower Division), 684 graduated with Third Class Honours, and 8 fall into the Pass category.”
The vice Chancellor noted that Despite the economic difficulties and the instability confronting higher education in Nigeria, the Institution have been able to navigate the murky waters.
He noted that the Anniversary Lecture will be delivered on Wednesday by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, Senior Advocate of Nigeria while the Convocation Lecture will be delivered by former Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof. Dipo Kolawole.
“Today, after this press conference, the Convocation Play will be staged on campus. Other activities for the 13th Convocation Ceremony include innovative research exhibitions and a friendly football match tomorrow Tuesday; the Anniversary Lecture to be delivered on Wednesday by Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State; while the AAUA at 25 Awards Ceremony will hold the same day.”
“The 25th Anniversary Inter-University Debate; Graduands Cocktail and the Convocation Lecture to be presented by Prof. Dipo Kolawole, former Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, will take place on Thursday.”
“Friday is dedicated for conferment of First degree on graduating students of faculties of Administration and Management Science, Education, The Social Sciences, Institute of Education, Institute of Part Time programmes, and presentation of Prizes.”
“Saturday is for conferment of First degree on graduating students of faculties of Agriculture, Arts, Law, Science, award of Postgraduate Diploma, Higher degrees, Honourary degrees, and presentation of prizes.”
On industrial relations with staff and student unions, the vice Chancellor affirmed that the University Management has fostered and maintained a robust, respectful, and mutually beneficial relationship with all unions within the institution.

This year holds special significance as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of our university on this site and mark the third Convocation I have had the privilege of presiding over. Among our key aspirations has been the stabilization of the academic calendar and the institutionalization of an annual convocation ceremony, aligning with international standards that underscore the transformative role of higher education in national development and its influence within Nigeria’s educational system.”
