Suspension: Appeal Court dismisses Ondo Assembly’s suit

The Court of appeal sitting in Akure on Wednesday dismissed the stay of execution suit filed by the Ondo state House of Assembly against the judgement of the High court reinstating suspended members of the state assembly.
Justice Folayemi Omoleye who queried the appellants for bringing a frivolous suit consequently directed the Ondo state House of Assembly which was represented by Mr Cyril Akinrinsola, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Solicitor-General of Ondo state, to as a matter of urgency allow the suspended members to resume their legislative functions without any hindrance.
The Precision NG reports that the lawmakers were suspended in the wake of the crisis which engulfed between the Governor of the state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Agboola Ajayi.
Ajayi had defected to the PDP and later ZLP to contest the October 10 governorship election with his boss.
Not happy with the development, an impeachment process was instituted by the APC dominated assembly against the deputy governor but could not form the constitutional requirement to impeach Ajayi as some lawmakers never supported such move.
Consequently, the assembly led by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun suspended the lawmakers over what it described as gross misconduct and indiscipline.
With the court of appeal ruling today Wednesday, it is hoped that the lawmakers would be allowed to resume to the house and perform their constitutional obligations.
