The Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Mrs Julianah Adebunmi Osadahun has charged members of NAWORG (NACCIMA Business Women Group) to continually make their impacts felt in improving the welfare of women in the society.
She particularly harped on the need for women to participate actively in business endeavours; as she is of the opinion that our women are industrious and hence, need financial empowerment to carry out their daily obligations.
The Commissioner said it is high time women removed themselves from the shackles of poverty and admonished them not to be extravagant and squandering resources on frivolous social engagements.
In as much as she believes government alone cannot do the work, she appreciated the contributions of NGOs to complement government’s efforts in the development of women in the state.
She advised them to co-habit and work in partnership, instead of seeing themselves as competitors. In her view, team work brings more success amongst different stakeholders rather than individual efforts.
The Commissioner made these statements while playing Host to members of NAWORG, Ondo State chapter in her office on a courtesy visit.
Dr Osadahun however promised the Ministry’s cooperation with the organization in achieving it’s set goals and objectives. She implored them to highlight areas of collaboration, so as to have a white paper for projects implementation in the new year.
Earlier, the State Chairperson of NAWORG, Dr Mrs Adefunmilola Williams-Daudu appreciated the Hon. Commissioner’s audience and congratulated her on her well deserved appointment, describing her appointment as a square peg in a square hole.
NAWORG is the Business Women Wing of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA). The organization has the mandate to coordinate the activities of women within the Chamber Movement across West Africa and the world at large.
Dr Williams-Daudu also briefed Dr Osadahun on the activities of the group and solicited her support to make more impacts in the society, especially amongst women. She later decorated Hon. Commissioner as the Matron of the organization.
