The Governing Council of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, has, at its 76th Regular Meeting, approved the appointment of Mr. Tobi Adewumi Orina, FCA, as the 4th substantive Bursar of the Institution.
Mr. Orina’s appointment followed the recommendation of the joint Council/Senate Selection Board, of the University.
Orina obtained Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. [Hons]) in Accounting from University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos in 1987; and earned Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Finance from Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos, in 2006.
He became an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA)in 1997, and conferred with the Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) in 2011.
Before joining the services of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, in 2004 as a Chief Accountant, Mr. Orina had worked as a Group Finance Manager at Persianas Nig. Ltd., Victoria Island, Lagos (1994-2004); an Accountant at Richway Investments Nig. Ltd. Ebute Metta, Lagos (1992 -1994); an Internal Auditor at the then Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti, Ondo State, now Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (1990-1992) and Treasury Officer at Homop Investment Nig. Ltd. Okitipupa, Ondo State (1988-1990).
In his professional trajectory in AAUA, Mr. Orina has headed major divisions in the Bursary, including Accounting Services Division, Treasury and Students Services Division, and Resource Management Division.
He had also served as member of many committees in the University, including Strategic Planning Committee, Research Grant Allocation Committee, University Farm Management Committee, House Ownership Committee, Accreditation Implementation Committee, and Ceremonies Committee.
Mr. Orina, who rose through the rank in AAUA to become a Deputy Bursar in 2011, obeyed the call to serve at the federal level when he was appointed the pioneer Bursar of the then newly-established Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State in 2015, and upon the completion of his tenure, he returned to AAUA in 2020 as Deputy Bursar, a position he occupied until his new appointment as the 4th substantive Bursar of the University.
Mr. Orina has not only added his academic values to the University Community, having, at one point in time, taught in the Department of Accounting of the Institute of Part-Time Programmes, and the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development of AAUA, but also attended and presented papers at both local and national workshops.
The distinguished, experienced and versatile Orina, whose appointment takes effect from June 30, 2021, takes over from Mrs. O. V. Ologun, FCA, who completed her five-year tenure on June 29, 2021.
