Against widely circulated speculation on the activities and operations of Waste management giant, ZL Global Alliance, especially, its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) intervention at Ade Super illegal dump, it has become very important to state categorically that the work was a CSR operation carried out with the private fund of ZLGA. The move was to complement efforts of the Ondo state government at making the state clean at all times.
It is worthy of note that what is happening at Ade Super area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, is a commencement of a string of activities embedded in our CSR intervention at waste management and cleanliness of the environment. It will also be extended to other places considered as illegal dumps in the state after negotiations and deliberations with the Ondo state government and Waste Management Authority regarding financial implications and post evacuation strategies.
It is therefore disappointing to read same category of persons who were, ab initio, saddled with the responsibility of environmental laws enforcement, but obviously have been failing in this regard, come out to condemn our modest contribution to environmental cleanliness, in addition to the fulfilment of our part of the contractual agreements with government. It is also instructive to note that evacuation of illegal dumps is not part of the contractual agreement ZL Global Alliance signed with government but being a major concern necessitated our intervention as a CSR project.
As a patriotic and corporately responsible company, ZL Global Alliance will continue to do its best possible in serving Ondo state better and also not relent in intervening where necessary without countenancing discouraging misplaced outbursts and vituperations.
We are committed to seeing to it that Ade Super illegal dump is rechristened to a beautifully clean haven that will give Àkúré a beffiting look of a state capital so properly called.
At this juncture, we like to call on the Ondo State Waste Management Authority, the government special committee on waste management and other related matters as well as the Ministry of Environment and other critical stakeholders to please step up enforcement action against recalcitrant residents who are bent on dumping wastes illicitly and in illegal places so that efforts at cleaning the state will not be in futility.
